Preparing for a Hair Transplant in New York – Do’s and Don’ts

Preparing for New York hair transplant is something that you should take the necessary time to do so you can confidently go through the procedure without worrying about anything. Now that you have made the decision to go through with the procedure and have set up your appointment, it is time to begin doing some basic preparations so you are completely ready. Here are some of the most important things to remember.

Your doctor may want you to use specific hair products (such as shampoos and conditioners) in the days or weeks leading up to your appointment. He may also have you avoid using certain products altogether to avoid interference with the procedure itself. Usually, after you go in for your consultation appointment, the Dr. Ende will give you a list of things that are okay to continue using. If you have any doubts about the hair care products you are currently using, make sure to speak with Dr. Ende to clarify any concerns.

Avoid drinking coffee or alcohol, smoking, and taking various supplements and prescriptions in the days and weeks leading up to the procedure. These substances may interfere with your New York hair transplant and cause problems. It is better to play it safe than sorry and simply avoid any of these things entirely if possible.

Do not get your hair done in the weeks before. This includes coloring, cutting, and other cosmetic procedures. You may also wish to leave the sides and/or back longer so they can cover any staples or sutures that may remain in the week or two after your surgery.

On the day of the procedure, be sure to wear comfortable clothing that is easy to get on and off. Choosing to wear something that you have to pull over your head is not a smart idea. Rather, choose something that can be unzipped or unbuttoned to avoid having to pull anything off of your head.

Be sure to find someone that can accompany you on the day of your appointment. Having company may help you to not be so nervous or skeptical about what is going to happen. In addition, it is critical that you have a reliable party to drive you home and assist you in accessing anything you need in the hours after surgery. This way, you can relax and begin the recovery process.

Choosing to get a hair transplant has many benefits including the ability to feel better about your physical appearance. Be sure to adequately prepare for the surgery by following these preparation do’s and don’ts.  For more information or to schedule a consultation, contact Dr. Ende today.
